EyeCare Partners Appoints Antonio Capone, Jr. as Chief Clinical Officer

ST. LOUIS, Missouri – April 21, 2022 – EyeCare Partners (ECP), the nation’s leading clinically integrated network of ophthalmology and optometry providers, today announced the appointment of the internationally recognized clinician, surgeon, and educator Antonio Capone, Jr., M.D., as Chief Clinical Officer, effective immediately.

Dr. Capone has served as the chair of ECP’s ophthalmology medical executive board (MEB) since its establishment in early 2021 and is currently a partner at Associated Retinal Consultants (ARC) in Royal Oak, Michigan and Professor of Ophthalmology at Oakland University William Beaumont Hospital School of Medicine. In his new role as Chief Clinical Officer, Dr. Capone will build out a clinical center of excellence focused on research, education, quality of care, patient safety, and innovation.

“As chair of our ophthalmology MEB, Dr. Capone spearheaded growth in both doctor leadership and engagement, while also identifying and pursuing impactful initiatives within ECP,” said David Clark, CEO of ECP. “It has been a little over one year since the establishment of our MEBs and in that time I have enjoyed seeing our doctors partner with our business leaders to drive meaningful change within the organization. With Dr. Capone’s leadership, we will be well-positioned to reach our goal of transforming the delivery of eye care through our clinically integrated network.”

“ECP has experienced tremendous growth over the past year with over 1,000 doctors now part of its clinically integrated network. As we continue to grow, a critical and exciting part of our future success will be tied to how we integrate the existing programs of our new ECP practices into the work being done in our MEBs,” said Dr. Capone. “I am excited to step into my new role as Chief Clinical Officer and I look forward to our new initiatives driving impactful change for our patients and organization.”

Dr. Capone obtained his undergraduate and medical school training at Brown University. Following this, he completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of Pittsburgh prior to a vitreoretinal fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta. Upon completing his training, he joined the Emory faculty and rose to the rank of tenured Associate Professor. In addition to serving as the chair of ECP’s ophthalmology MEB, Dr. Capone is also a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), Macula Society, American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), and serves on the Executive Committee of the Retina Society.

ECP emphasizes the importance of doctor leadership through MEBs that work in partnership with a diverse group of healthcare business leaders to achieve the best patient outcomes and business results. ECP supports its practices by leveraging practice management expertise with the resources and knowledge inherent in its national medical group to meet the growing demand for quality eye care, thus allowing doctors to focus on what they do best – deliver personalized patient care.
